Tobacco Free Tag

 - plays like Blob Tag

Purpose:  To get everyone moving.  To introduce the idea that students can influence others to live a tobacco free lifestyle.

Materials:  This activity needs a large open space.  The area then needs boundary markers so that participants do not go outside the boundaries.  The boundaries should not be too big.

Activity:  Tell students that the whole group is a bunch of smokers.  One person is designated as “it”.  Their job is to tag someone.  Once they tag someone they link arms.  Then the two people try to tag one or more people and everyone links arms.  This keeps going until everyone is caught.  As the “blob” grows, the group leader can point out that the group of non-smokers is growing.  You will notice that it is easier to catch people as the blob grows and takes up more space in the boundary.

Processing:

1.    What did participants do to not get tagged?

2.    How did the blob person figure out how to tag others?

3.    When did the non-smoker blob find it easier to tag others; when he or she was alone or with a large group?

4.    How is this activity like creating an atmosphere for non-smoking among one’s peers?
